I’ve had to work hard at not gravitating to black every chance I get.  It’s still a struggle to go outside of the box and pick a color, or gasp… something with multiple colors.  Black is just so easy to pair with everything, it’s slimming, and is brilliant at hiding stains.  So it was right in my comfort zone to pair this particular top and bottom together.  While I’m in some color, I have a little bit of black supporting and grounding the outfit.   Yet, somehow not enough black to cover the coffee that I inevitably spilt on myself later in the day.

One of the best things about being in New York is having access to all of the fashion that doesn’t quite make its way to Calgary.  And when I saw this leather and tweed jacket, I immediately pictured all the outfits it would befriend in my closet.  One of my favorite trends this fall is the leather blocking and this jacket absolutely nails it.  Be prepared to see many encore performances, because I’m just getting started with how style this little number.

My memories of cinnamon rolls date far back, the earliest belonging to a homemade version baked with love by my Aunt.  In terms of baked goods the cinnamon bun is just about as good as it gets.  Doughy, sugary, cinnamon perfection, and as if it couldn’t get any better, you get to apply a generous amount of cream cheese frosting on top.  I found this recipe from the Williams Sonoma’s cookbook, Home Baked Comfort, and although it sounds daunting, it was really quite straight forward.  The only thing that might be better than actually tasting these little beauties is the smell of them coming fresh out of the oven.

I had such an amazing time in NYC last week, I met so many incredibly talented ladies, learned a ton from the conference and was inspired to extremes with all the sights and sounds.  I came home expecting a much more mundane weekend, and it turned out to be the opposite.  Make up applications, catching up over coffee with a dear friend, an adrenaline filled evening of Muay Thai matches, a little marathon training and the first hockey practice of the year.  When I got home Sunday evening I relaxed by sitting down at the old sewing machine to create a cute something for a cute someone… you’ll have to check back to see the final product.

I can remember the exact moment I received a pair of my first ‘stylish’ shoes.  The type of shoe you put on and get an abundance of compliments that makes you feel like you’ve just solved the world peace issue.  I love that it doesn’t matter if you’ve gained some weight or lost some weight, the shoe always fits.  And it seemed like a fleeting, crossing fingers, toes and elbows moment when I suggested that one of the spare rooms be converted into a dressing/shoe room.  Jacqueline Corea from Corea Sotropa went above and beyond to make this little dream a reality.  It feels like another world when I enter this room, proverbial birds chirp, doves fly overhead, and I’m lost in the beauty that surrounds me.
