I’ve rediscovered my love for the classic sheath dress silhouette recently.  I love how smart and professional the shape of the dress is, but when made in a fabulous print how fun it can be too.  It’s an easy transition from day to night or work to play.  And the pressure of matching tops to bottoms is taken out of the equation.  I’m thinking sleeves for the winter, and this look just may be go-to come this fall.

Since I can remember if ever I was asked what my favorite food was my response was always the same, ice cream.  There has never been a particular flavor that I was drawn to, I’m pretty much an equal opportunity kind of lady.  I received an ice cream maker a few years ago and, have to admit, it very nearly ended up in the appliance graveyard.  All it took was one batch of ice cream to change that.  I have made an abundance of batches in a variety of flavors, but the strawberry ice cream recipe from this book takes the cake as one of my favorites.  I went the extra mile this time and whipped up homemade waffle cones too.  It was a little bit of perfection, and I did my best not too brag too much, but a little bit’s okay, right.

Well, it’s official, Labor Day has come and gone and fall is upon us.  I tried to sneak as much white as possible into my wardrobe this past weekend.  It’s not even that I’m superstitious about the whole white after Labor Day situation, it just feels wrong.  All of those cozy sweaters, the aubergines and the chocolates, all waiting so patiently to get some street time.  I still associate this time of year with the excitement and anticipation of headed back to school.   And because I’m heading to NYC for a conference this week, it feels even more so.  It also means I’ll have to do a little shopping for some ‘back-to-conference’ outfits.

There comes a point in time when you realize your current organizational routine is not working.  That came for me when I couldn’t find a particular bracelet in a pile of bracelet road kill.  I knew I had to do something about it, and the idea came from the packaging of my watch.  It had it’s own little pillow that it was wrapped around to keep its shape.  What a tremendous difference it has made, both in the organizational sense as well as the eye candy sense.  Now I know exactly where everything is at all times.  Except when I forget to put things back, one thing at a time around here.

While part of me is mourning the end of summer, another part is celebrating the return of my fall wardrobe.  One item in particular that I was overjoyed to see was my classic trench coat.  It goes with literally everything, offers warmth from the crisp fall breeze and I swear takes inches off my waist.  It’s such an essential piece in my fall ensemble.  I’m already envisioning it with boots, leggings, sweaters and scarves.  The best thing of all is that because it’s a classic it will never go out of style… how’s that for justification of a purchase.
