A Bit of Brown
Elizabeth and James Blouse, Club Monaco Leggings, Burberry Booties, Celine Handbag, Swarovski Earrings
It always seems like old rules are being broken in fashion and new ones are being built. Somewhere along the way I had heard that black and brown shouldn’t be seen together. Thank goodness that isn’t the case anymore, because I love the combo of the two. With everyone getting along it means that you don’t have to worry about pairing those beautiful brown boots with your black pants. The possibilities are endless, and now, all of a sudden, so is your wardrobe. Okay, your wardrobe may not be endless, but it certainly has many more options.
Mixed Prints
J Crew Sequin Top, Club Monaco Blouse, Club Monaco Skirt, Wolford Nylons, Yves Saint Laurent Pumps, Yves Saint Laurent Clutch
In an effort to keep things fresh around here my blogging buddy/ Centre Street Style photographer and I have been playing around in the studio. It helps capture the details in certain outfits, like the sequins and print in this skirt and layered top ensemble. Despite the enormous amounts of snow, I can feel that spring is around the corner, and my skirts and dresses want some airtime. To help ease these pieces into rotation I pair my skirts with tights and closed toe pumps. Next step, bare legs and open toes.
Cherry on Top
T by Alexander Wang Tee, J Brand Denim (different color here and here), Mackage for Aritzia Leather Jacket (similar here), Yves Saint Laurent Booties (similar here), Escada Scarf, Alexander Wang Handbag
Last summer colored denim became all the rage, and I ate it up, hook, line and sinker. So you can imagine my relief that colored denim is forecasted to be hot again this year. I especially love my red pants. I find they’re just as versatile as blue jeans because I pair them with just about everything. They look great teamed up with booties and black, but I know come spring a white tee and sandals will also make them shine.
Tutu
TNA Chambray Shirt, Tutu – Made by Mikki, Club Monaco Necklace, Manolo Blahnik Pumps, Yves Saint Laurent Clutch, Hermes Watch, David Yurman Bracelet
When I was dreaming up the window for a collaboration with Coco + Violet back in December I knew I wanted to incorporate whimsical tutus. While I was drafting them out I decided to secure a lining to make them wearable after the fact. I’m so glad I had the foresight to do so, because wearing one has been so much fun. To offset the grandeur of the skirt, I paired it with my favorite chambray shirt. I like the tea length version of this skirt, but also think it would look great a few inches shorter as well. The fabulous thing about tulle is that you can shorten it instantly by pulling out your scissors and cutting it to the desired length. I can’t wait to see what it will look like come summer paired with a white tank and bright chunky necklace.
Black and White Cookies
I’ve heard so much about the infamous black and white cookie, and thus far, I have yet to properly taste one. I decided to change that by whipping up a batch the other day. I used this recipe from the Baked Explorations cookbook, and the cookies tasted every little bit what was promised to me. I was most intrigued by the pledge of the cookies being ‘cake-like’, which seemed too good to be true. They had barely been iced for seconds when I was forced decided to start tasting, and I don’t think it’s appropriate to let you in on how many I had. I know ladies, be jealous of my self-control. They were just that delicious.
