This past weekend was filled with an abundance of family and friends, a trek out to Red Deer for ice hockey, a fabulous baby shower, the first of many holiday parties and an amazing amount of belly laughs. It was the kind of weekend I love most. I can’t believe how quickly time seems to be passing by these days, and that December is just around the corner. This time of year is my absolute favorite, and I can’t wait to share all of my favorite things about it with all of you.

When the winter slog has settled in our city, it’s hard to get motivated to get outside in anything other than your Uggs or snow boots. In order to shake myself out of my cold weather footwear slump, I spent the day donning my sparkly sneakers. Because really, how can a little sparkle not get you back on track? The best part is that they are completely practical for making my way around the city and running errands. Oh how I love two birds, one stone.

The weather in Calgary has been Arctic to say the least, and when it starts dipping to below -20 Celsius, it’s hard to think about wearing anything other than a parka and snow boots. I’ve found though, if you layer up appropriately, you can still be a little bit chic, even when mother nature is trying to prevent it from happening. So make sure you’re bundling up my friends, but feel free to keep it fashionable.

For so long I veered away from prints on my lower half. The whole idea that a print or a stripe could get in the way of looking svelte was enough to deter me for years. The last couple of seasons have shown us an abundance of prints and plaid in the pant department, and the moment I threw in the towel and gave the plaid a chance, I was sold. With the proper fit and a neutral top, there is no reason to think you can’t rock your own plaid pair. I can already tell these little gems will be in heavy rotation this winter season.

Sometimes the most fun part of getting dressed can ironically be the most challenging. It’s so easy to stick to solid colors and neutrals, but crossing over into the category of prints is a whole different story. That’s when I tend to let go a little bit and have some fun. Start off by pairing muted, neutral colored prints at first, and then work your way up. How else is one supposed to know that leopard print pairs well with plaid.
