After spending the weekend in Seattle, taking in the market, indulging in delicious dining and of course, cheering on the big game, all while the weather hit highs of 30°C, being back in Calgary has been a bit of a shock.  We’ve been hit with an unseasonable snowstorm that has been wrecking havoc.  Of course at this time of year I had not expected snow, so all of my winter ensembles are packed tightly away, waiting for a more reasonable calendar date to make an appearance.  So in a complete and utter hurry I dug out some essentials that I knew would get me through this week of ‘winter’.  It’s times like these that make me question my commitment to this mostly fabulous city.

There’s something so wonderful about the start of September.  Something inherently inside of me that gets excited to dive into fresh opportunities and undertake new challenges.  My motivation to take on the world is always at it’s highest this time of year.  When I attended school there was the additional pleasure of fresh notebooks and pretty pens that helped tackle my fresh list of life’s to-do’s.  But nowadays it’s the reward of crossing tasks off that list and the intention of infinite possibilities that motivates me to journey forward.

Summer is coming to a close and while historically I’m desperate to stop the clock and hold on to the warm sunshine, this year is different.  This year I’m anxiously awaiting autumn.  While New Year’s is the official calendar fresh start, for me fall is the fresh start of a new year.  That fresh, crisp air brings with it the promise of an array of new and exciting challenges, an opportunity to start over and how could I forget to mention, fall fashion.

The weather has had a sudden change of heart, but luckily I’m headed out west today to partake in Lululemon’s SeaWheeze Half Marathon, and the weather there is calling for nothing but sunshine.  So while YYC had a very fall-ish feel yesterday, my suitcase is packed with a summer vibe.  I love long weekends, especially when they involve travel.

I remember when there were strict rules about mixing your metals.  Gold and silver had to be separated, and rose gold, don’t even go there.  Thankfully those rules have been shattered, and everything shiny falls under the broad ‘metallics’ category.  So forget about putting your gold bracelets on the sideline when you’ve decided to wear the silver, everyone can play nice now.
