The moment I saw this sweater dress in New York I knew it had to make the trip home with me.   I immediately envisioned all the ways I could wear it, with a belt, under a vest, and even with a sweater layered overtop.   I used to stay away from this type of silhouette.  I tended to pick party dresses over something more fitted like the sweater dress.  But as I get older it’s becoming one of my most favorite looks, and the versatility wins me over every time.  I see a long future ahead for this little dress and me.

When the days start getting chilly I tend to migrate to a certain kind of uniform to lend a helping hand when dressing in multiple layers seems overwhelming.  This consists of leggings, an oversized sweater and my trusty motorcycle boots.  I throw a little scarf into the mix and I’m ready to tackle the day, with energy to spare.  The day gets even better when my marvelous mother gives lends me her fabulous scarf for forever the day.

We had our first big snowfall of the season yesterday.  While most in the city were complaining about their commute and having to bundle up, I was secretly doing cartwheels.  I love the change of season, the crisp air, the fluffy white snow, and winter fashions.  Skinny jeans tucked into boots and cute parkas are staples to get me through the winter season.  There will definitely be a point when you see me trade in my equestrian boots for Sorels.  The day that happens you’ll know that it’s unnecessarily cold, which is probably the day I’ll start wishing for summer.

I hosted a poker party this past weekend for my photographer, and I made sure the only thing that he had to worry about was the guest list.  It was actually his idea to have a hot dog bar, and I completely ran with the idea.  I found a hot dog machine that kept the dogs toasty warm all night and made a batch of chilli that allowed for the construction of chilli cheese dogs.  There was an abundance of snacks, drinks and some serious poker playing.  It was deemed a huge success and I’m already plotting menus and themes for future poker parties.

I love decorating for Halloween, especially when it comes to placing pumpkins around the house.  Unfortunately real pumpkins have a shelf life that doesn’t last past Halloween, much less from year to year.  So I decided to have a little fun transforming simple plastic pumpkins into glamorous little works of art.  You can match your pumpkins to your decor, or make a statement and have them shine on their own.  The best part about this project is that you can pull out these pumpkins year after year.  So get those creative juices flowing and get ready to get messy in a way that doesn’t involve pumpkin seeds and carving knives.
