It was an absolutely beautiful day out yesterday, the kind that feels more like spring than fall.  It gave me a chance to wear something that felt much too autumn for the winter weather we’ve been having lately.  This jacket was my favorite find from New York last fall and I love its versatility.  You can throw it over a casual outfit of jeans and a tee, but due to its shape and detailing, it also looks incredible over a little black dress.  If only everything in life were this flexible.

There’s something about homemade pizza that trumps all of the store bought and restaurant made out there.  It may be the fact that you know exactly what is going into it.  Every little detail down to the sprinkling of seasonings, you can account for it all.  I recently purchased the book Pizza by Pete Evans and was blown away by the amazing recipes inside.   This recipe that I’m sharing with you is hands down my favorite, and infusing the house with the smell of fresh baked pizza on a crisp winter night felt absolutely appropriate.

The cold weather has been limiting our outdoor photo shoots, but it sure isn’t preventing me from throwing on a skirt during these winter months.  I love being able to wear a pencil skirt with a loose fitting sweater over top.  Having the option of styling my skirts with sweaters presents so many more possibilities.  The icing on the cake in regards to skirts and dresses in the chilly months is most definitely the variety of tights available.  I almost dislike when the warm weather comes and these options get taken away.  Almost.

I have memories as a child of my parents heading off to their own adult Halloween party, dressed up in fabulous costumes that my mother had made for them.  I always wished that I could go with them and once I moved back to Calgary I decided I would resurrect the tradition for myself.  The second annual Fright Nite was a complete success, with costumes getting more elaborate and detailed and party participants getting into character, down to the theme music.  The centerpiece that served as both decoration and dessert was a fabulous creation by Rose Sen of Sen Cakes.  There were all sorts of treats with very little tricks, and I was thrilled with the effort everyone put in.  There was even a visit from the women’s USA Olympic gymnastics team, and let me say those gals are lookin’ good.  The Fright Nite trophy has another name to be engraved on it, and I think it’s safe to say that everyone is already plotting their costume for next year.

While in Paris I tried to do as the Parisian’s did.  Therefore, indulging in an aperitif, or two, before lunch and dinner was a must.  My choice of beverage was the same every time, a Kir Royale.  I had never heard of the drink before until a lovely lady friend of mine introduced us.  It was love at first sip and my loyalty to this particular aperitif was solidified in the city of love.  It’s really a simple concoction, a splash of creme de cassis at the bottom of a champagne glass, which is then filled to the top with cool, crisp champagne.  To mix it up a bit you can have a Kir, which is creme de cassis mixed with white wine, preferably Chablis, although any dry white wine does the job.  I have to admit that I didn’t just indulge in this aperitif in Paris, there was also Avignon, Cannes, Saint-Remy, Arles, Monte Carlo… you get the idea.
