This summer is all about shorts, and I’ve decided I like mine best with a print.  I’ve already worn this particular pair numerous times, in fact, I donned this entire ensemble earlier this year at the fashion blogger’s conference in LA.  When an outfit speaks to you, you have to take advantage.  I personally don’t see anything wrong with sporting the same threads multiple times, especially when spaced out or in different locations for different events.  It just makes good sense when something is working to ride it out.  So just a warning to everyone out there, this may not be the last time you see this little number walking around the streets of Calgary.

There are times when I go through a color slump and reach only for black, white and neutral items in my closet.  When this happens I give my head a shake, and get back to the basics of color theory.  I needed a dose of color the other day and decided to go back to kindergarten and explore the primary colors of red, yellow and blue.  It’s amazing how a dose of color can lighten up my mood, especially when summer in Calgary is so short.  This season all of the designers have incorporated fabulous colors, so they’re not hard to stumble upon.  Here’s to a weekend filled with color and cheer my friends.

On Monday I became an Auntie for the second time, to the gorgeous little Quinn Grace.  It’s such an amazing feeling being an Auntie and I get all the fun moments that involve snuggles, showering my nieces with gifts and playing to my heart’s content.  Since I’m not a mom I don’t look at gifts in terms of practicality, it’s all cuteness level for me.  So my favorite gifts to give, (surprise, surprise) are adorable outfits.  I spend hours in the store styling these little ensembles, and it’s usually around this time that my ovaries start their own mini gymnastics routine.  I thought I would share with you all some ideas on the most darling little outfits that are guaranteed to get everyone ooo’ing and aww’ing.  (Reader discretion: the level of cuteness you are about to see may cause your own ovaries to start up…I take no responsibility for this side effect).

It’s funny how certain activities can clear your mind and bring you peace.  That’s what baking does for me, especially when there’s no time limits and no expectations.  I’ve had this recipe for Banana Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Buttercream from the Craft of Baking cookbook ear marked for quite some time.  The end result did not disappoint, producing deliciously moist banana cupcakes with a light-as-air peanut butter icing.  The two flavors complimented each other so well, and the bananas and peanut butter cover my protein and fruit intake for the day, right?

There was a time where I developed a serious relationship with the color coral, and I couldn’t get enough of it.  It became my go-to choice of makeup, top contender during outfit selection in the mornings, and favorite nail polish, lip gloss and heel color.  I’ve moved on since then, but must admit I still get excited when I find an item that fits into the coral category.  Let’s just call it what it is, a lifelong relationship with a color that never disappoints.
