Edgy Comfort
Joie Sweater, Veda Leather Skirt (similar here), Saint Laurent Sandals, Chanel Handbag, Swarovski Earrings, Alden Rae Bracelet, Hermes Watch, David Yurman Bracelet, Stella & Dot Bracelet
Sometimes comfort needs to work with everything that lives in your closet. Which was exactly my theory when I decided to pair my leather skirt and sky high pumps with a cozy, comfy sweater. The sweater makes the entire ensemble feel unfussy and easy, and the fabulous part is I’ll be able to wear it with my skinny jeans come fall. I’m actually wondering why I didn’t think of this earlier.
Orange and Green
Alice + Olivia Dress (similar here), BCBG Belt, Stuart Weitzman Espadrilles, Chloe Handbag (different color), Michael Kors Watch, David Yurman Bracelet, Stella & Dot Bracelet, La Vie Parisienne Earrings
Florals are everywhere this summer, in vibrant hues that don’t usually reside in my closet. I love the idea of a bright pop of color, especially when grounded by a neutral handbag and sandals. Going with such a bright palette sometimes makes me question whether it’s too much, but if you can’t do color on a sunny summer day, when can you? So get out of your comfort zones ladies, and try something a little more daring than you usually would, it is only summer for a few months of the year after all.
Stampede Approved
RED Valentino Dress (similar here and here), Lammles Boots, La Vie Parisienne Earrings, Gucci Watch, Chan Luu Bracelet, BCBG Clutch
When the stampede rolls in to town I revert to auto-pilot and immediately head to my closet searching for all of the plaid and denim I own. So you can only imagine my delight when I came across this denim dress months ago, confidently knowing that come Stampede time I would absolutely nail my ensemble. The fabulous thing is that I can envision this dress not done up for Stampede too. Paired with a bright belt, sexy sandals, layered necklaces finished off with a top knot and I’ll be ready to roll.
Blueberry Fool
There are times when I get stuck in a dessert rut. I tend to stick with what works, and that usually consists of my comfort categories of cakes, cookies and ice cream. Lately I’ve been attempting to push my culinary skills to their max, and while the recipe I chose wasn’t difficult in execution, I’ve never actually made anything like it. I came across a recipe from Williams Sonoma for Blueberry Fool, which is an English dessert that incorporates pureed fruit. The addition of Creme de Cassis really brought this tasty treat to a whole new level, I already can’t wait to make it again.
Stampede Breakfast Part Two
The Calgary Stampede is among us, and with last year’s promise of my pancake breakfast becoming an annual event, the last couple of weeks have been spent diligently planning out the details to make it a success. The best part of the party this year, besides the lovely guests in attendance, was hands down the entertainment. Country music star Codie Prevost and his band played, joked and charmed their way into the hearts of all the guests. Did I mention how easy on the eyes these gentlemen were too? This was easily my favorite event I’ve thrown this year, and I’m already anticipating next year’s party.
