In the weeks days leading up to the marathon my tired little legs have wanted to don nothing more structured than sweat pants. Of course, one can’t wear sweatpants, fashionably, more than once a week, so my boyfriend jeans have been earning their keep in the closet as of late. I love being able to jazz up a sweatshirt and denim simply by throwing on a pair of heels and a leather jacket. It’s truly a case where everybody wins.

As I’ve gotten older I’ve acknowledged a noticeable movement towards black in my wardrobe. While I still love and am drawn to colour, having a closet full of options that are guaranteed to play nice with everyone else is just so lovely. To avoid the pitfalls of having an entirely black on black wardrobe, I like to incorporate prints that have black in the pattern, such as my graphic DVF skirt, last seen here. Now, can we all agree that’s just some good clean fun?

It’s unbelievable to me how quickly time passes these days. One week today and I’m off to sunny L.A. to run the LA Marathon. It’s been a gruelling 4 months of training, but I’m feeling ready (well, as ready as I can be). Aside from the fact that wearing pumps sans tights has been commonplace this winter, it’s also allowed me to do many of my training runs outdoors, and that is truly a blessing. Whatever you may be doing this weekend I hope it’s filled with all good things. I’ll be taking it easy, perhaps some light packing, some heavy carb loading, and doing anything that takes my mind off my upcoming run.

My least favourite weather element is, by far, the wind. I lived in Vancouver for a number of years, but the constant rain seems to have nothing on the blustery wind that comes through Calgary. While a gentle breeze is the perfect accessory for a photo shoot, the fierce wind that rolled in the other day brought a huge wind chill and an abundance of wardrobe malfunctions. A dress on a windy day, even the most gorgeous baby blue variety, is not the wisest idea. From now on it will be pants only when the wind is predicted above 30km/hour.

The balmy weather has shifted and just like that it’s winter here in YYC. I’ve become so accustomed to the early spring weather, when the flakes fell I floundered to find something warm. Luckily I had this gorgeous grid coat waiting in the wings and it stepped up to the task. I’ve said time and again, you can never go wrong with a fabulous coat in this temperamental-temperature city.
