I returned home from Vancouver late last week and spent the weekend catching up on life. It’s funny how you can feel like you belong in one city when you visit there, and another entirely when you return home. I wasn’t successful in coercing anyone home in my suitcase, but I’m hopeful for a summer full of fresh faced visitors here in YYC. Until then I have lots to busy myself with, and can’t wait to show you all what I’ve been working on.

It’s coming up on five years since I moved away from the beautiful city of Vancouver back to my hometown of Calgary. It’s hard to believe that amount of time has passed, and even harder to comprehend all of the changes that have taken place during that time. My life itself looks completely different than it did back then, so much so, that my old life in Vancouver seems a lifetime ago. Luckily, I’m a short plane ride away, so when my heart yearns for those forever friends I met almost ten years ago, I pack my bags and get myself out there to see them. I just have to devise a way to bring them back home with me now…

Funfetti Cupcakes
Three years ago I encountered a baking blog that absolutely blew me away. As a lover of all baked goods, with an extra special love of cakes, this little space in the internet was a dream come true. The blog was Sweetapolita, the baker behind it was Rosie Alyea, and, drumroll please, she has just released her very own book, The Sweetapolita Bakebook: 75 Fanciful Cakes, Cookies & More to Make & Decorate. I was lucky enough to receive said book for my birthday this past month and I promise to bake my way through the entire book, starting right at the beginning, with Funfetti Cupcakes. These little cakes of deliciousness were a huge hit and I can’t wait to tackle the next recipe.

It’s been a deliciously good and busy week, which is why my poor blog has been so neglected. Thankfully it’s winding down and there are plans for some much needed down time. I had a tonne of running around to do yesterday, and since it was such an early start, the thought of climbing straight into something tight and binding was just not an option. I have to say, these dressed up joggers are basically a dream come true. Case-in-point, throwing on some glitzy jewels and trading in the sneaks for pumps would have allowed me to take this ensemble straight from day to happy-hour drinks. We should probably have a beverage to celebrate that fact.

It’s Friday, it’s absolutely gorgeous outside, the Calgary Flames play their second playoff game tonight, and did I mention, it’s Friday?! There’s something so invigorating about waking up to a blue sky and sunshine on a spring morning. I have a weekend filled with the ‘A’ list of peeps and a treasure trove of various activities. After a week spent working my little tail off, I’m so ready to enjoy myself and the gorgeous weather. Wishing you all a fabulous Friday and an wonderful weekend.
