There’s little that gets me more excited in the summer months than ice cream, especially when it’s homemade and even more so when local ingredients are used.  So when my parents dropped off a bag of the largest and most delicious cherries I’ve ever tasted, from a local farmer’s market, I knew I had to eat as many as I could, and then make ice cream.  I used a recipe similar to this one from the book Sweet Scoops, and wow, the mix of creamy vanilla, rich, juicy cherries and truffled chocolate was everything and more.  The recipe uses the traditional French custard form of making ice cream, and while it’s a little more intensive, the results are absolutely worth the extra effort.  Is there really anything better than ice cream in the summer months, I say not.
